Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Air port

Meet and greet you FANOS Ethiopia Tours representative at exit of luggage claim and transfer you to the hotel.Overnight stay in Bole Ambassador Hotel, Addis Ababa.

 

Day 2: Drive to Bahir Dar

After breakfast, you will drive to Bahir Dar (564 Km from Addis). After 100km from Debre Libanos Monastery the road dropping more than 1000m, gradually winds down to the bottom of the Blue Nile Gorge, which is comparable in scale to American’s Grand Canyon cited to be the largest canyon in Africa. You will stop for lunch at Debre Markos.

Then you will arrive in Bahir Dar (late afternoon). You will check into a hotel. You will have dinner, rest & spend the night there.Overnight stay in Jacaranda hotel, Bahir Dar.

 

Day 3: Drive to Simien Mountains National Park

You will have breakfast & drive to Debark (280 Km from Bahir dar) finish formalities at the Head Quarter of the park at Debarq and continue to drive another 20km then make a short walk/trekandspend the day visiting the Simien Mountains National Park (registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site, with endemic & mammals, birds, natural vegetation, & wonderful landscape).

Late in the afternoon drive back to lodge. You will check into a lodge and take a break. Dinner will be at the lodge.Overnight stay in Simien lodge, inside Simien Park.

Day 4: Explore the day looking for Gelada baboon

Day 5: Drive to Chenek & explore the day looking for Wali ibex

 

Day 6: Drive to Adigrat

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to Adigrate (apprx. 400 Km from Debark) through the Simien Mountains & magnificent topography & scenery, the Limalimo Gorge, Tekeze Valley. You will arrive in Axum late in the afternoon. You will check into a hotel and take a break. Dinner will be at the hotel.Overnight stay in lodge, Adigrat.

 

Day 7: Drive to Hamed Ela

After having a breakfast you will drive to Hamed Ela (180 Km from Mekelle) via Berehaile. On arrival at Berehaile, you will pick up mandatory police, scouts, road guides, and permits for the Afar region.  On your way you will notice striking changes in scenery as you drop from 2,220 elevation to below sea level, the Dankile depression begins here. It is one of the most inhospitable regions of the world, but is nonetheless spectacular, full of eye-catching colors, as in the sulphur springs. The desert has several points lying more than 100 meters (328 ft) below sea level.

En route you will see many long caravans going to the salt mines and others coming out of the Danakil with their salt loaded camels. Overnight stay camping at Hamed Ela.

 

Day 8: Exursion to Ragad (Asebo) and Dallol Depression, 25 km from Hamed Ela

Early in the morning after having a breakfast you will have a day trip to Ragad (Asebo), the place where the salts are mined. Observe the breaking of the salt from the ground, cutting into rectangular pieces and loading on camels.

Then you drive ahead to Dallol(116 meter below sea level, one of the lowest places in the world) and visit the difference landscape formed by volcanic activity, Dallol  includes  the Sulfur lake , Salt mountain, colourfull hot spring water, and Camel Caravan. Later back to Hamed Ela for lunch. 

After lunch & brief break you will drive to Abala (150Km asphalt road 3hrs). Abala is small settlement & with moderate temperature, and basic accmmodation with shower. Upon arrival check in local hotel. Rest, relax, and dinner.  Overnight stay local hotel Hamed Ela.

 

Day 9: Drive to Erta ale (150 Km aspahlt & 45km sand road, total 195km from Hamed Ela)

After having an early breakfast (possible at 06:30) you will drive to Erta ale, (195Km from Abala).

Up on arrival at Dodom take rest, relax & fill your energy for trek to Erta ale (17Km from Dodom) that takes approximately 3 hrs trekking.

Early dinner around 17:00 then as the sun sets, you leave behind the cars, use Camel to transport all the camping materials and some food (sleeping materials like light mattresses, mat and water) to the rim of the volcano, where you spend the night watching the dramatic action of the boiling lava. Erta ale ranks one of the most alluring and physically challenging natural attractions anywhere in Ethiopia. It is a shield volcano with a base diameter of 30 km and 1km square caldera at its summit. Erta Ale contains the world’s only permanent lava lake. Overnight at the rim of the Volcano.

 

 

Day 10: Drive to Semera

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to Semera (apprx. 265 Km from Earta ale) via Serdo on a track through the desolate landscape with only some coned shaped volcano’s here and there to Afdera salt lake ( Lake Afdera is a wonderfully bright green lake situated with black basalt mountains behind.  Here you can see salt extraction from the Lake, where the Afar nomads continue the same activities for a century.  The salt extraction here is the main supply of salt to the country). You will have dinner and stay the night in the hotel.  Overnight stay local hotel.

 

Day 11: Drive to Awash

You will have an early breakfast and drive to Awash (357km from Semera). There you will check into a hotel. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel.Overnight stay in Genet hotel.

 

Day 12: Drive to Harar

After a relaxed breakfast, you will drive to Harar. You will arrive in Harar late in the afternoon where you will check into a hotel. Early in the evening, you will visit man feeding wild hyenas. Then you will have dinner & spend the night there.Overnight stay in Ras or Heritage Plaza Hotel.

 

Day 13: Visit the Walled town of Harar

You will have an early breakfast and visit the walled city of Jegol, the house of Arthur Rimbaud (a French poetry who lived 1880’s in Harar), Emperor Haile Selassie home (where he was born & raised) and Harari Cultural Museum. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Ras or Heritage Plaza Hotel.

 

Day 14: Drive to Adama/Nazareth

You will have breakfast & drive to Adama (425 Km from Harar). In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Safari lodge.

 

Day 15:Drive to Dinsho, Bale Mountains National Park Head Quarter

In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Dinsho, via Assela-Bekoji(appx. 310 Km from Nazareth).

Upon arrival, you will check into a guest house and do all the requirements for trekking at the Bale Mountains National Park HQ. Later, you will prepare the necessary logistics for your trekking. After a brief break, you will have time to make a short hike along the northern part of the park. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the lodge.Overnight stay in Dinsho lodge.

 

 

 

Day 16:Spend the day in Bale Park

In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the lodge.Overnight stay in Dinsho lodge.

 

Day 17: Drive to Sanetti Plateau

In the morning, you will have breakfast and drive to the Sanetti Plateau (55km, altitude of 4000 meter, with Afro-alpine Moor land, beautiful wild alpine scenery). Upon arrival in Goba, you will check into a hotel and rest.

In the afternoon drive to Bale loge. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the lodge.Overnight stay in Bale Mountainlodge.

 

Day 18: Drive to Awassa /Hawassa/

In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Awassa (225 Km from Goba) and upon arriving in Awassa in the afternoon, you will check into a hotel. Later, you will walk along the lake shore for nice evening sunset and aquatic birds. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel.Overnight stay in Haile Resort.

 

Day 19: Drive to Arba Minch through Wolayta Sodo

In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Arba Minch (330 Km from Yirega Alem). On the visit the scenic morning Fish market in Awassa. Then you will drive to Arba Minch (280 Km from Awassa). On the way you will visit Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary (90 Km from Awassa, well-known for endemic and endangered subspecies of Swayne’s Hartebeest) and you will stop for lunch at Wolayta (154 Km from Awassa).

You will be arriving in Arba Minch late afternoon and check into a lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Paradise or Swaynes Lodge.

 

Day 20:Drive to Turmi, Hammer tribe town via Arebore - Tsemay

After breakfast you will be driven to Turmi (280 Km from Arba Minch). You will have lunch in Konso (90 Km from Arba Minch). The continue your drive to Turmi via Arebore-Tsemay while visit the Arebore (Erebore) village. You will arrive in Turmi late in the afternoon. Check-in to the lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi or Buska Lodge.

 

Day 21: Excursion to Murille to visit Karo Village

An early morning drive will take you to Murille to visit the Karo tribe (62 Km from Turmi). You will spend the day visiting the Karo village. You will have lunch in the bush, take picnic lunch. Late in the afternoon drive back to Turmi for overnight stay. In the evening you will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi or Buska Lodge.

 

Day 22:Drive Omorate to visit Dassench/Geleb tribe

An early morning drive will take you to Omorate to visit the Dassench/Geleb tribe (75 Km from Turmi). From there, you will take a boat trip on the Omo River and visit the Dassench/Geleb village. You will arrive in Omorate mid/late in the afternoon.  Later, you can walk around the Dassench village.You will have dinner and spend the night at camping. Overnight stay camping.

 

Day 23: Visit Dassench Village and drive to Turmi

Early in the morning after breakfast you will visit anotherDassench village. Then you will drive to Turmi (75 Km from Omorate) for lunch.

Late in the afternoon drive back to Turmi for overnight stay. In the evening you will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi or Buska Lodge.

 

Day 24: Drive to Jinka

After breakfast you will be driven to Turmi (142 Km from Turmi), visiting an interesting village on the way. You will continue travelling to Key Afer and visit the Thursday Key afar market. You will have lunch in Key afar.  You will proceed driving to Jinka (40 Km from Key afar).

You will arrive in Jinka early/mid -afternoon. Check in to hotel/resort. Take your own time. Rest, relax or walk by yourself in the town and/or follow your own program. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel/resort. Overnight stay in Jinka Resort or Orit hotel.

 

Day 25: Excursion to Mursi village through Mago National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Mursi (55 Km from Jinka) and visit to the of Mursi tribe village (popularly known for their attractive culture, women wearing large clay plates into their lower lips). Then you will drive back to Jinka for lunch. 

After lunch, you will visit to the nearby Ari village and museum in Jinka. Dinner will be at the resort and you will spend the night at the resort. Overnight stay in Jinka Resort or Orit hotel.

 

Day 26: Drive to Arba Minch

After breakfast, you will be driven to Araba Minch (290 Km from Turmi). On the way after Weito make a de tour to visit Arebore village (50 Km from Weito). You will have lunch in Konso. Then drive back to the main road & drive to Araba Minch, where upon arrival you will check into a lodge. Dinner will be at the lodge and you will spend the night there. Overnight stay in Paradise or Swaynes Lodge.

 

Day 27: Drive/flight back to Addis Ababa

After breakfast, you will be driving to Addis Ababa (510 Km from Arba Minch). You will stop for lunch at Wolayta Sodo. On the way you will visit to the Tiya Stelae (90 Km before Addis Ababa).

You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon where you will do some shopping for souvenirs. Finally you will be taken to a farewell dinner depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for return flight back home.
