Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole international airport

Meet and greet you at exit of luggage claim and transfer you to the hotel.Overnight stay in Itegue Taitu or CaravanHotel, Addis Ababa.

 

Day 2: Addis Ababa City Tour

You will have an early breakfast and your first visit in Addis Ababa will be the National Museum (pre historic, cultural, archaeological attractions), Ethnographic Museum of Addis Ababa University (culture, dressing style, traditional practices of over 80 ethnic groups, and collection of traditional musical instruments). Your visit also comprises tourist attraction sites like Emperor Minelik’s Palace, St. Raguel’s Church (after a drive to Entoto Mountain - 3000 meter above sea level), Merkato, (the largest open market in Africa).

After lunch you will visit Trinity Cathedral. It was constructed by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1947 (ornamented with carvings and mosaic and other artistic works such as paintings of saints and the apostles on the stained glass), you will also visit St George Cathedral and Museumand visit Merkato, the largest open market in Africa. In the evening, you will have dinner at the hotel and you will rest.Overnight stay in Itegue Taitu or CaravanHotel, Addis Ababa.

 

Day 3: Fly to Bahir dar and Blue Nile Falls

Addis Ababa – Bahir dar two flights depart at 1) 07:50AM     2) 08:10 AM

Early morning, a short flight will take you to Bahir dar. Upon arrival, you will be met by our tour guides, drive to a hotel where you will check and rest for few minutes.

After lunch, you will drive (some 30 Km) and visit to the Blue Nile Falls. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Optional Excursion: early in the evening, after dinner you will visit ‘AzmariBet’ at Traditional Music Houses.Overnight stay in Blue Nile Resort Hotel.

Day 4: Boat Ride on Lake Tana and drive to Gonder

You will have an early breakfast and drive to Lake Tana, take a boat ride where you will visit to the medieval period island monasteries (beautiful mural paintings, religious books & sacred) on Lake Tana such as: Kibran Gabriel (only for men), Entos and on the Zegien peninsula visit Ura Kidan Mehiret, Azuwa Mariam, Mahal  Giorgis.

After lunch, you will be driven to Gondar (185 Km). On the way visit Awra Amba Community (8 Km de tour to Lalibela road after driving 80 Km from Bahir Dar). You will arrive late in the afternoon in Gonder. Then you will check into a hotel, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel.Overnight stay in Goha hotel or Lodge du Chateau.

 

Day 5: Full day Visit Gonder

You will have an early breakfast and your first visit in Addis Ababa will be the Royal Castles & the Bath of Emperor Fasiledes (the bath is filled with water for the important Timkat (epiphany) ceremony once a year.

You will continue your visit to Debre Birhan Selassie Church(Trinity at the Mount of Light), the Castle of Empress Mintewab, and Kuskwam Complex which is a royal compound built by the Empress Mentewab.

Then you will drive to Falasha village (6 Km from Gonder, all Ethiopian Jews are left the country so the locals owned the area). Later drive back to Gonder. Optional Excursion: Early in the evening, after dinner you will like to hear asmari in Shewe Beye or somewhere better. Overnight stay in Goha hotel or Lodge du Chateau.

 

Day 6: Drive to Simien Mountains National Park

You will have breakfast & drive to Debark (100 Km from Gonder) finish formalities at the Head Quarter of the park at Debarq and continue to drive another 20km then make a short walk/trekandspend the day visiting the Simien Mountains National Park (registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site, with endemic & mammals, birds, natural vegetation, & wonderful landscape). Late in the afternoon drive back to lodge. You will check into a lodge and take a break. Dinner will be at the lodge.Overnight stay in Simien lodge, inside Simien Park.http://www.simiens.com/

 

Day 7: Drive to Axum

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to Axum (270 Km from Debark) through the Simien Mountains & magnificent topography & scenery, the Limalimo Gorge, Tekeze Valley. You will arrive in Axum late in the afternoon. You will check into a hotel and take a break. Day 8: City Tour in Axum

You will have breakfast and will visit all day to the Steale of Axum, the Inscription of Ezana, Queen Sheba’s Palace, the famous St. Mary of Zion Church, ruins of ancient palaces (built until 4th century A.D.), with lunch break in between then outside Axum you can visit also the tombs of Kings Kaleb & Gebre Meskel dating to 6th century.In the evening, you will get back to the hotel and spend the night there.Overnight stay in Yared Zema hotel, Axum.

 

Day 9: Drive to Hawizen via Adigrat

After breakfast, you will be driven to Hawizen (250 Km from Axum). On the way you can visit Ethiopia’s earliest known capital city of Yeha(considered as the birthplace of the country’s earliest civilization that is thought to be over 2500 years old). Upon arrival at Hawizen you will check into a lodge and after a brief break, you will have lunch.

After lunch, you will visit some of the most beautiful medieval churches on impressive viewpoints such as: Abuna Yemata Guh, Debre Maryam Korkor or Abreha WeAtsheba church, all situated near to the road between Mekele and Hawzien. It requires climbing a steep mountain to reach these churches so good walking/mountain shoes are recommendable. Back to the lodge. Dinner will be at the lodge.Overnight stay in Gheralta lodge, Hawizen.

 

Day 10: Drive back to Axum & flight to Lalibela

Axum - Lalibela flight depart at 11:15AM    

In the morning, you will have breakfast and drive to back to Axum. Then take a short flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival, you will be met by our tour guides, drive by a minivan to a hotel where you will check and rest for few minutes.

Your first visit will be to the eleven Rock-hewn Monolithic (carved from a single rock) Churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World heritage site, with magnificent architecture & paintings inside the churches). Day 11: One more day to explore the Lalibela Rock-hewn Churches

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to historical churches around Lalibela like the Hill Church of Asheton Mariam (on the back of a mule or on foot), Yimerhane Kirsotos, Nakute LeAb or Genete Maryam.Overnight stay in Panoramic View Hotel, Lalibela.

Day 12: Flight back to Addis Ababa and flight to Dire Dawa – Harar

Lalibela – Addis Ababa two flights depart at 1) 10:40AM     2) 12:15 AM

Addis Ababa - Dire Dawa two flights depart at 1) 01:10PM     2) 04:00 PM

After a relaxed breakfast, a short flight will bring you back to Addis Ababa. You will arrive in Addis Ababa midday/early afternoon. Check in again for flight to Dire Dawa. You will have lunch in the airport terminal.

In the afternoon you will take a short flight to Dire Dawawhere a vehicle waiting for you at the airport for a pick up to Harar (50km from Dire Dawa).In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Day 13: Harar all day. Visit the Walled town of Harar

You will have an early breakfast and drive to Harar (50km from Dire Dawa). On arrival you will check into a hotel &visit the walled city of Jegol, the house of Arthur Rimbaud (a French poetry who lived 1880’s in Harar), Emperor Haile Selassie home (where he was born & raised) and Harari Cultural Museum.

Early in the evening, you will visit man feeding wild hyenas. Then you will have dinner & spend the night there.Overnight stay inpension Rowada cultural Guesthouse,or zubeyda cultural Guesthouse.

 

Day 14: Drive to Dire Dawa -flight to Addis Ababa – drive to Awassa

Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa2 flights in the morning depart at 1) 10:00AM     2) 06:35 AM

You will have breakfast & drive to Dire Dawa (50 Km from Harar).  And check in for, a short flight back to Addis Ababa.

In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Hawassa/Awassa (230 Km from Nazareth) through the Great Rift Valley Lakes. En route visit Lake Abijatta-Shala National Park, Lake Shala (a very deep crater lake - over 260 meters deep) and Lake Abiatta (a soda lake with thousands of flamingos).

Upon arrival in Awassa in the afternoon, you will check into a hotel. Later,  depending on the time you can walk along the lake shore for nice evening sunset and aquatic birds. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel.Overnight stay in Lake View hotel.

                       

Day 15: Drive to Arba Minch through Wolayta Sodo

In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Arba Minch (280 Km from Awassa). On the visit the scenic morning Fish market in Awassa. Then you will drive to Arba Minch (280 Km from Awassa). On the way you will visit Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary (90 Km from Awassa, well-known for endemic and endangered subspecies of Swayne’s Hartebeest) and you will stop for lunch at Wolayta (154 Km from Awassa). You will be arriving in Arba Minch late afternoon and check into a lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Day 16: Visit Nech Sar National Park - drive to Dorze – drive to Konso

In the morning, after breakfast you will take a boat ride on Lake Chamo and visit to huge crocodiles, hippos, a variety of birdlife and you will also visit to the nearby Nech Sar National Park (a natural habitat for many wild animals: Zebra, Gazelle, & Antelope etc.). You will have lunch break at Arba Minch.

After a brief break, you will continue driving to Dorze (50 Km from Arba Minch) and visit to the Dorze village (famous for their bee hive shaped houses, weaving styles and their lifestyle) & visit also Chencha Saturday market (7km from Dorze).

Then back to Arba Minch & drive to Konso (140 Km from Dorze). You will arrive early in the evening in Konso. Dinner at the lodge and stay the night there. Overnight stay in Kanta Lodge.

 

Day 17: Visit Konso & drive to Jinka via Key afar

In the morning,you will have breakfast, explore Konso, visit the museum, the dokatu market, shopping at Komaya heart of Konso. You will have lunch at Konso and then we will be driven to Jinka (180Km from Konso) and check into a resort. You will have dinner and spend the night at the resort.Overnight stay in Jinka Resort.

 

Day 18: Excursion to Mursi village & drive to Turmi

In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Mursi (55 Km from Jinka) and visit to the of Mursi tribe village (popularly known for their attractive culture, women wearing large clay plates into their lower lips). Then you will drive back to Jinka for lunch. 

After lunch you will be driven to Turmi (142 Km from Jinka). On the way depending on the times try to catch the colorful Tuesday Alduba Market (appx. 80 Km from Jinka).

You will arrive in Turmi early evening and check into a lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge.Overnight stay in Turmi Lodge.

 

Day 19: Excursion to Omorate to visit Dassench/Geleb tribe

An early morning drive will take you to Omorate to visit the Dassench/Geleb tribe (75 Km from Turmi). From there, you will take a boat trip on the Omo River and visit the Dassench/Geleb village.

Then you will get back to Turmi for lunch. You will then walk to the non-touristicHammer Village to explore the Hammer tribes (best known for elaborate hairstyles, body painting using clays and vegetable pigments to make fantastic patterns on their faces, chests, arms and legs), attend the bull jumping – if possible and available with luck.

In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi Lodge.

 

Day 20: Drive to Araba Minch via Arebore, if doesn’t rain

After breakfast, you will be driven to Araba Minch (290 Km from Turmi). On the way visit the Arebore (Erebore) village.You will stop for lunch at Konso and will proceed driving to Araba Minch, where upon arrival you will check into a lodge. Dinner will be at the lodge and you will spend the night there.Overnight stay in Paradise Lodge.

 

Day 21: Flight back to Addis Ababa and departure back to home

ADD-BJR two flights depart at 1) 07:50AM     2) 08:10 AM

After a relaxed breakfast, a short flight will bring you back to Addis Ababa. You will arrive in Addis Ababa midday/early afternoon where you will do some shopping for souvenirs.

Finally you will be taken to a farewell dinner to Ethiopian (Habesha 2000 or YOD Abyssinia) traditional restaurant where you will taste Ethiopian food & drinks and a live music & dance.

Then depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for return flight back home.
