Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Air port

Meet and greet you FANOS Ethiopia Tours representative at exit of luggage claim and transfer you to the hotel.

 

Depending on your arrival visit/city tour in Addis Ababa. You will have an early breakfast and your first visit in Addis Ababa will be the National Museum. It houses numerous antiquarian relics and archaeological artifacts (most famous exhibit is the 3.5 million year old skeleton of Lucy). Then you will continue to visit Mount Entoto (3,200 above sea level. The Church of St Mary (1885) and Emperor Menelik II Palace. The Entoto Museum, with its historical exhibits is well worth a visit. Lunch at Lucy Restaurant.

 

After lunch you will visit Trinity Cathedral. It was constructed by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1947 (ornamented with carvings and mosaic and other artistic works such as paintings of saints and the apostles on the stained glass) and visit Merkato, the largest open market in Africa. Day 2: Drive to Bahir Dar

 

After breakfast, you will drive to Bahir Dar (564 Km from Addis). En route, you will visit Debre Libanos Monastery (founded in the 13th century by priest Tekla Haimanot, today one of Ethiopia’s most renowned saints) & the museum.

 

After 100km from Debre Libanos Monastery the road dropping more than 1000m, gradually winds down to the bottom of the Blue Nile Gorge, which is comparable in scale to American’s Grand Canyon cited to be the largest canyon in Africa. You will stop for lunch at Debre Markos.

 

Then you will arrive in Bahir Dar (late afternoon). You will check into a hotel. You will have dinner, rest & spend the night there. Overnight stay in Homeland hotel, Bahir Dar.

Day 3: Boat Ride on Lake Tana to Visit Island Monasteries and visit Blue Nile Falls

 

You will have an early breakfast and drive to Lake Tana, take a boat ride where you will visit to the medieval period island monasteries (beautiful mural paintings, religious books & sacred) on Lake Tana such as: Kibran Gabriel (only for men), Entos and on the Zegien peninsula visit Ura Kidan Mehiret, Azuwa Mariam, Mahal  Giorgis.

 

After lunch, you will drive (some 30 Km) and visit to the Blue Nile Falls. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Homeland hotel, Bahir Dar.http://www.homlandhotelbahirdar.com/

 

Day 4: Drive to Gondar and Visit the Fassiladas Castles

 

You will be driven to Gondar (185 Km) right after breakfast. Then you will check into a hotel and after a brief break, you will have lunch. 

 

Then, you will visit to the Royal Castles & the Bath of Emperor Fasiledes (the bath is filled with water for the important Timkat (epiphany) ceremony once a year.  You will continue your visit to Debre Birhan Selassie Church (Trinity at the Mount of Light). Day 5: Drive to Simien Mountains National Park

 

You will have breakfast & drive to Debark (100 Km from Gonder) finish formalities at the Head Quarter of the park at Debarq and continue to drive another 20km then make a short walk/trek and spend the day visiting the Simien Mountains National Park (registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site, with endemic & mammals, birds, natural vegetation, & wonderful landscape).

 

Late in the afternoon drive back to lodge. You will check into a lodge and take a break. Dinner will be at the lodge. Overnight stay in Simien lodge, inside Simien Park.  

 

Day 6: Drive to Axum

 

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to Axum (270 Km from Debark) through the Simien Mountains & magnificent topography & scenery, the Limalimo Gorge, Tekeze Valley. You will arrive in Axum late in the afternoon. You will check into a hotel and take a break. Dinner will be at the hotel. Overnight stay in Berhana or Sabean hotel, Axum.

 

Day 7: City Tour in Axum

 

You will have breakfast and will visit all day to the Steale of Axum, the Inscription of Ezana, Queen Sheba’s Palace, the famous St. Mary of Zion Church, ruins of ancient palaces (built until 4th century A.D.), with lunch break in between then outside Axum you can visit also the tombs of Kings Kaleb & Gebre Meskel dating to 6th century.

In the evening, you will get back to the hotel and spend the night there. Overnight stay in Berhana or Sabean hotel, Axum.

 

Day 8: Drive to Mekelle

 

After breakfast, you will be driven to Mekelle (280 Km from Axum). On the way you can visit Ethiopia’s earliest known capital city of Yeha (50 Km from Axum) which is considered as the birthplace of the country’s earliest civilization. Its single most remarkable antiquity is the well-preserved walls of the 12m-high stone temple of the moon that is thought to be over 2500 years old.

 

Another possible excursion is to Debre Damo monastery (70km from Axum, only accessible for men). The Debre Damo Monastery is built on the flat- topped mountain of Debre Damo. The monastery is only accessible by climbing a rope which hangs down from a perpendicular rock, an adventure in itself!

 

Then drive to Mekelle. You will arrive late in the afternoon. You will check into a hotel and take a break. Dinner will be at the hotel. Overnight stay in Axum Hotel, Mekelle.

 

Day 9: Drive to Lalibela

 

After breakfast, you will be driven to Lalibela (470 Km from Mekele) through the Ambalage Chain of Mountains. Your arrival in Lalibela will be late in the afternoon. You will check into a hotel, have dinner and spend the night there. Overnight stay in Panoramic View Hotel, Lalibela.

 

Day 10: Visit the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela

 

Early in the morning, after breakfast, your visit will be to the eleven rock-hewn monolithic (carved from a single rock) churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World heritage site, with magnificent architecture & paintings inside the churches). In the evening you will get back to the hotel, rest, have dinner and relax. Overnight stay in Panoramic View Hotel, Lalibela.

 

Day 11: Flight back to Addis Ababa &drive to Awassa

 

After a relaxed breakfast, a short flight will bring you back to Addis Ababa. You will arrive in Addis Ababa mid-day where you will have lunch.

 

Then, you will drive to Awassa (275 Km from Addis). You will be arriving in Awassa in the afternoon and check into a hotel. Later, you can walk along the lake shore for nice evening sunset and aquatic birds such as; Saddle-billed stork, herons, darters and Wood hoope. You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel. Day 12: Drive to Arba Minch through Wolayta Sodo

 

In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to Arba Minch (330 Km from Yirega Alem). On the visit the scenic morning Fish market in Awassa. Then you will drive to Arba Minch (280 Km from Awassa). On the way you will visit Senkelle Wildlife Sanctuary (90 Km from Awassa, well-known for endemic and endangered subspecies of Swayne’s Hartebeest) and you will stop for lunch at Wolayta (154 Km from Awassa).

 

You will be arriving in Arba Minch late afternoon and check into a lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Paradise or Swaynes Lodge.

 

Day 13: Visit Nech Sar National Park & drive to Dorze 

 

In the morning, after breakfast you will take a boat ride on Lake Chamo and visit to huge crocodiles, hippos, a variety of birdlife and you will also visit to the nearby Nech Sar National Park (a natural habitat for many wild animals: Zebra, Gazelle, & Antelope etc.). You will have lunch in Arba Minch.

 

After a brief break you will drive to Dorze (50 Km from Arba Minch) visit the Dorze village (famous for their bee hive shaped houses, weaving styles and their lifestyle). Late in the afternoon drive back to Arba Minch. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Paradise or Swaynes Lodge.

 

Day 14: Drive to Jinka via Key afar

 

In the morning, you will have breakfast and drive to Jinka (270 Km from Arba Minch). And upon arrival at Konso (90 Km from Arba Minch), you will visit to the Konso Village (famous for their colorfully costumed dresses, impressive terracing of land - recently registered as World heritage by UNESCO, and engraved wooden statues grave markers).

 

You will have lunch at Konso. Then you will be driven to Jinka and check into a resort. You will have dinner and spend the night at the resort. Overnight stay in Jinka Resort or Jinka Eco-Omo Lodge.

 

Day 15: Excursion to Mursi village through Mago National Park

 

In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Mursi (55 Km from Jinka) and visit to the of Mursi tribe village (popularly known for their attractive culture, women wearing large clay plates into their lower lips). Then you will drive back to Jinka for lunch. 

 

After lunch, you will visit to the nearby Ari village and museum in Jinka. Dinner will be at the resort and you will spend the night at the resort. Overnight stay in Jinka Resort or Jinka Eco-Omo Lodge.

 

Day 16: Drive to Turmi, Hammer tribe town

 

After breakfast you will be driven to Turmi (142 Km from Jinka), visiting an interesting village on the way. Upon arrival in Turmi check into a lodge. You will have lunch in Turmi. 

 

After a brief break you will then walk to the non-touristic Hammer Village to explore the Hammer tribes (best known for elaborate hairstyles, body painting using clays and vegetable pigments to make fantastic patterns on their faces, chests, arms and legs), attend the bull jumping – if possible and available with luck.

 

In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi or Buska Lodge.

 

Day 17: Excursion to Omorate to visit Dassench/Geleb tribe

 

An early morning drive will take you to Omorate to visit the Dassench/Geleb tribe (75 Km from Turmi). From there, you will take a boat trip on the Omo River and visit the Dassench/Geleb village.

 

Then you will get back to Turmi for lunch. You will then walk to the non-touristic Hammer Village to explore the Hammer tribes (best known for elaborate hairstyles, body painting using clays and vegetable pigments to make fantastic patterns on their faces, chests, arms and legs), attend the bull jumping – if possible and available with luck.

 

In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi or Buska Lodge.

 

Day 18: Excursion to Murille to visit Karo tribe

 

An early morning drive will take you to Murille to visit the Karo tribe (62 Km from Turmi). You will visit the Karo village. You will have a picnic lunch.

 

Then you will get back to Turmi for lunch. In the afternoon you will have free or follow your own program. In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi or Buska Lodge.

 

Day 19: Drive back to Arba Minch

 

After breakfast, you will be driven to Araba Minch (290 Km from Turmi). You will stop for lunch at Konso and will proceed driving to Araba Minch, where upon arrival you will check into a lodge. Dinner will be at the lodge and you will spend the night there. Overnight stay in Paradise or Swaynes Lodge.

 

Day 20: Drive back to Addis Ababa

 

After breakfast, you will be driving to Addis Ababa (510 Km from Arba Minch). You will stop for lunch at Wolayta Sodo. On the way you will visit to the Tiya Stelae (90 Km before Addis Ababa). You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon where you will do some shopping for souvenirs.

 

Finally you will be taken to a farewell dinner to Ethiopian (Habesha 2000 or YOD Abyssinia) traditional restaurant where you will taste Ethiopian food & drinks and a live music & dance.

 

Then depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for return flight back home.
