Day 1: Arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Air port

Meet and greet you FANOS Ethiopia Tours representative at exit of luggage claim and transfer you to the hotel.

Depending on your arrival visit/city tour in Addis Ababa. You will have an early breakfast and your first visit in Addis Ababa will be the National Museum. It houses numerous antiquarian relics and archaeological artifacts (most famous exhibit is the 3.5 million year old skeleton of Lucy). Then you will continue to visit Mount Entoto (3,200 above sea level. The Church of St Mary (1885) and Emperor Menelik II Palace. The Entoto Museum, with its historical exhibits is well worth a visit.

After lunch you will visit Trinity Cathedral. It was constructed by Emperor Haile Selassie in 1947 (ornamented with carvings and mosaic and other artistic works such as paintings of saints and the apostles on the stained glass). In the evening, you will have dinner at the hotel and you will rest. Overnight stay in Oasis Hotel Apartment, or similar accommodation Addis Ababa.

 

Day 2: Fly to Bahir dar and Visit Lake Tana Island Monasteries & Blue Nile Falls

Early morning, a short flight will take you to Bahir dar. Upon arrival, you will be met by our tour guides, drive to a hotel where you will check and rest for few minutes.

Your first visit will be to Lake Tana on a boat ride where you will visit to the medieval period island monasteries (beautiful mural paintings, religious books & sacred) on Lake Tana such as: Kibran Gabriel (only for men), Entos and on the Zegien peninsula visit Ura Kidan Mehiret, Azuwa Mariam, Mahal  Giorgis.

After lunch, you will drive (some 30 Km) and visit to the Blue Nile Falls. In the evening, you will have dinner and stay the night at the hotel.

Optional Excursion: Early in the evening, after dinner you will visit ‘Azmari Bet’ at Traditional Music Houses after which you will back to the hotel and stay there for the night. Overnight stay in Jacaranda hotel, Bahir Dar.

 

Day 3: Drive to Gondar and Visit the Fassiladas Castles

You will be driven to Gondar (185 Km) right after breakfast. Then you will check into a hotel and after a brief break, you will have lunch. 

Then, you will visit to the Royal Castles & the Bath of Emperor Fasiledes (the bath is filled with water for the important Timkat (epiphany) ceremony once a year. And visit the Felasha Village of Weleke.  Shabbat services in Gondar with Jewsish community.

You will continue your visit to Debre Birhan Selassie Church (Trinity at the Mount of Light). Overnight stay in Goha hotel, Gonder.

 

Day 4: Flight to Axum & City Tour in Axum

Early morning, a short flight will take you to Axum where you will check into a hotel. After a short break, you will visit to the Steale of Axum, the Inscription of Ezana, Queen Sheba’s Palace, the Famous St. Mary of Zion Church, Ruins of Ancient Palaces (built until 4th Century A.D.), all day with lunch break in between.

In the evening, you will get back to the hotel and spend the night there. Overnight stay in Berhana or Sabean hotel, Axum.

 

Day 5: Flight to Lalibela

After breakfast, a short flight will take you to Lalibela. Upon arrival, you will be met by our tour guides, drive by a minivan to a hotel where you will check and rest for few minutes.

Your first visit will be to the eleven Rock-hewn Monolithic (carved from a single rock) Churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World heritage site, with magnificent architecture & paintings inside the churches). On this day you will visit the first group (6 churches) & the third group (1 church). In the evening you will get back to the hotel, rest, have dinner and relax.  Overnight stay in Panoramic View hotel, Lalibela

 

Day 6: Excursion to Yimrehane Christos

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive will take you to historical churches of Yemrehane Christos Church (45Km north of Lalibela, 1 hour drive) which is built in a cave. It is older than the churches in Lalibela and built in the old Axumite wood- and stone layers style. Later drive back to Lalibela for lunch.

Then in afternoon after Lunch, visit the second group of churches in Lalibela.  Overnight stay in Panoramic View Hotel, Lalibela. 

 

Day 7: Flight back to Addis Ababa and continue your visit in Addis Ababa

After a relaxed breakfast, a short flight will bring you back to Addis Ababa. You will arrive in Addis Ababa & then you will continue to visit Merkato, (the largest open market in Africa).

In the evening you will get back to the hotel, rest, have dinner and relax. Overnight stay in Oasis Hotel Apartment, or Similar accommodation in Addis Ababa.

 

Day 8: Drive to Wolayta Sodo

Right after breakfast, an early morning drive to Wolayta Sodo (325 Km from Addis Ababa). While en route visit  Melka-Kunture (50 Km from Addis Ababa) Prehistoric Site lies near the Awash River Gorge is one of the most important archeological sites in Ethiopia, where hand axes and various other implements have been found. And Tiya (80 Km from Addis Ababa) Tiya is a UNESCO heritage, where of a peculiar type of engraved, grave marking standing stelae, believed to have been erected between the 12th and 14th centuries stand.

You will have dinner and spend the night at the hotel. Overnight stay in Abebe Zeleke hotel, Wolayta Sodo.

 

Day 9: Drive to Dorze

In the morning, after breakfast you to Dorze (125 Km from Wolayta Sodo). On arrival check in to lodge. Take some break and a local guide will take you to a compound of the Dorze people to visit their house and see their life style. The housewife will show you how a kind of flour is prepared from the stem of the enset tree (false banana) which is fermented and used to prepare porridge and sour flat bread. Make a walk in the mountains, passing the Dorze settlements, and visit a weaving and a potter’s cooperation. And visit the colorfully market in Dorze town (if you travel on Monday/Thruesday).

 

Overnight stay in Dorze lodge (simple bungalows built in Dorze style with magnificent view over the Rift Valley. On your request the lodge can organize a campfire, and eventually a cultural evening with life music and dance of the Dorze people (not included in the tour price).  Overnight stay in Dorze lodge.

 

Day 10: Drive to Arba Minch and Boat trip on Lake Chamo & walk in Nech Sar national park

After a breakfast you will drive to Araba Minch (50Km from Dorze) & make a boat trip on Lake Chamo where you will see the crocodile market. One can spot many hippos and the world’s most spectacular concentrations of Giant Crocodiles. (It is locally called as the crocodile market) the water birds are great the scenery is truly unforgettable. Fishing for Nile perch and many other species by locals on their traditional boat is by far the best in the country. You will also watch various low land water birds like the African Fish Eagle, Great white pelicans, egrets, etc.

Hereafter the boat will bring you to the other side of the lake where you enter Nech Sar National Park for a walk of app. 3 hours on the savannah plain where you can watch Burchell’s zebra’s, different bird species, baboons and probably also gazelle and Swayne’s hartebeest.

You will have lunch in Arba Minch. In the afternoon you will have free leisure time. Check in to lodge. Overnight stay in Paradise Lodge or Emrald resort, in Arba Minch.

 

 

Day 11: Drive to Jinka

After breakfast you will be driven to Jinka (260 km from Arba Minch, 6-7 hour drive). You will have lunch break at Konso.

In the afternoon visit the ethnographic museum in Jinka, that display the culture, traditions, and way of life the 16 ethnic groups of Omo valley. In the evening you will have dinner at the hotel/resort and stay the night there. Overnight stay in Nasa hotel or Jinka resort.

 

Day 12: Excursion to Mursi village through Mago National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Mursi (55 Km from Jinka) and visit to the of Mursi tribe village (popularly known for their attractive culture, women wearing large clay plates into their lower lips). Then you will drive back to Jinka for lunch. 

After lunch, you will visit to the nearby Ari village. Dinner will be at the resort and you will spend the night at the resort. Overnight stay in Nasa hotel or Jinka resort.

 

Day 13: Drive to Turmi, Hammer tribe town

After breakfast you will be driven to Turmi (142 Km from Jinka), visiting an interesting village on the way. Upon arrival in Turmi check into a lodge. You will have lunch in Turmi. 

After a brief break you will then walk to the non-touristic Hammer Village to explore the Hammer tribes (best known for elaborate hairstyles, body painting using clays and vegetable pigments to make fantastic patterns on their faces, chests, arms and legs), attend the bull jumping – if possible and available with luck.

In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi Lodge.

 

Day 14: Excursion to Omorate to visit Dassench/Geleb tribe

An early morning drive will take you to Omorate to visit the Dassench/Geleb tribe (75 Km from Turmi). From there, you will take a boat trip on the Omo River and visit the Dassench/Geleb village.

Then you will get back to Turmi for lunch. You will then walk to the non-touristic Hammer Village to explore the Hammer tribes. In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi Lodge.

 

Day 15: Excursion to Murille to visit Karo tribe

An early morning drive will take you to Murille to visit the Karo tribe (62 Km from Turmi). You will visit the Karo village. You will have a picnic lunch.

 

Then you will get back to Turmi for lunch. In the afternoon you will have free or follow your own program. In the evening, you will be driven back to the lodge for dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Turmi Lodge.

 

Day 16: Drive to Konso

In the morning after breakfast, you will be driven to Konso (160 Km from Turmi, famous for their colorfully costumed dresses, impressive terracing of land - recently registered as World heritage by UNESCO, and engraved wooden statues grave markers).

You will arrive early in the afternoon. Checking in to the lodge. Lunch. In the afternoon visit Konso Village. Overnight stay in Kanta Lodge, Konso.

 

Day 17: Visit the Konso Village & drive back to Arba Minch

After breakfast you will be driven to not touristic& UNESCO registered Konso village, where you will spend the day visiting and taking pictures. You will have lunch in Kanta lodge. Early/mid in the afternoon drive to Arba Minch (90 Km from Konso). Check into a lodge. You will have dinner and spend the night at the lodge. Overnight stay in Paradise Lodge or Emrald resort, in Arba Minch.

 

Day 18: Drive back to Addis Ababa

After breakfast, you will be driving to Addis Ababa. You will arrive in Addis Ababa late afternoon where you will do some shopping for souvenirs.

Finally you will be taken to a farewell dinner to Ethiopian (Habesha 2000 or YOD Abyssinia) traditional restaurant where you will taste Ethiopian food & drinks and a live music & dance.

Then depending on your scheduled flight; you will be transferred out to Bole International Airport for return flight back home.
